So.. As many of you would know.. I got him

So last Wednesday night, Julian (=
droolz) and I went for a little trip out of Canberra to do some nice long exposures!
f/5.6, 400iso, 10mm, 497secs..Julian got a shot of the same tree a few min later with his 50mm.. see it here.. I love it!

Anyway, after being harassed by people on a bridge and seeing Kangaroos and a Wombat and freezing our assess off we bailed pretty early.. I think I got 7 shots total from 3 or so hours shooting! haha.. 10min exposures + 10min noise reduction = not too many shots!
Then Thursday evening it was off to our little holiday location!!
Always love this view.. It means.. Holidays
So Friday morning, look out the window.. Nice light, warm.. Sunny.. I get up, have a shower, have some breakfast.. go outside.. Storm clouds..
Managed to get a few shots before the rain set in..
There is always Rainbow Lorikeets down there, and they're always an interesting subject
This guy saw his reflection in the water, and had to check that he wasn't seeing things..
TWO Tawny Frogmouths.. I didn't notice the guy on the right till it opened its eye! Then the skies opened up.. so we played tennis? lol.. yes it rained so we played tennis.. Was fun though.. It was like in slo-mo cause the rain slowed the ball down heaps..
That night ma lil sis and I took some night shots.. They'll be posted eventually..
Next day, niiice day but I didn't want to get my hopes up too high.. nice and early we headed down the creek. First we saw
White-Faced Heronand
Little Pied Cormorant?Then it was
Sea Eagles Nestand then finally, realllly far up the creek.. it was
White-bellied Sea-Eagleokay kids, let's get an idea of how far away that eagle is.. That was shot at 672mm (300mm + 1.4x TC + 1.6x Crop factor) and then that is a 100% crop.. and I was in a boat... I looooooove IS

Here is a shot of it from the same distance away totally uncropped.
(Of course it has been resized)Then as we headed back up the creek, me feeling a little disappointed by not overly surprised.. *flash* a small bird flew low over the water in front of us.. Only I saw it.. but I knew what it was..
He was hiding! So once I spotted him, we cut the boat engine and we paddled closer, he watched. All the while I was firing away.. He flew further up.. we followed.. Until finally he perched on a tree overhanging the water...
I shot away and got the shot I've posted..

Then.. "CF CARD FULL!" flashes on my LCD.. I was ready, my little assistant (

Bonnie) had grabbed be a spare..
I had changed the cards and was pulling the camera to my eye.. all the while watching the bird.. when it launched itself into the water, beak first..
My heart melted.. I loooooovvvee this bird..
He came out of the water a split second later and he was gone.. so fast we never saw where he went!
But I had what I came for!!
The victory photos followed..
Dad any Bonnie
Rob aka Captain Rob..
Me lookin happy.. But I was worried.. Still had to get the photos onto a computer and check them y'see! That afternoon the real vitory photos were taken..
Bon jumping for joy..
Me jumping for joy!! (Shot taken by Bon)For those Australians you might know this lady..
Margaret Pomerance from the Movie Show .. oh yeah.. I papped that bitch goood
For the record.. I don't like Margaret.. but hey

Next day it was tennis then sitting in my hide for a couple of hours to no avail then home again..
I did snap my target destination for next time I'm there..
River banks.. where they likely nest in the summer..Hope you all enjoyed the adventures of Jeremy and the Kingfisher

Keep an eye out for my photos.. There will be some more posted soon.
Peace

Jez

Love the fluffy tummy on the Sea Eagle too, bit scruffy from the rain I guess.
